THIS IS NOT WHO I AM
Book about Typography
This book is an attempt to illustrate one of the trends in typography – handwriting. By visually representing my analysis of hand-written text collected from friends and strangers, I tried to demonstrate how its use could make modern design feel more personal and emotional. I specifically drew all illustrations in the book based on my emotional response to each person’s handwriting. I also used both vintage and modern sourced advertising material that utilizes handwritten type to show its relevance in design in our computerized present.
For the original look of the book cover, I asked 15 people to write “This is not who I am.” In contrast to the meaning of this phrase, they were supposed to write it in a way that would be natural to them. The resulting text playfully arranged across the cover illustrates the book’s concept: to showcase each person’s true self through their handwritten text. Pieces of handwritten text are also used as a design element throughout the book.
